Is the steal an X trend still worth building?
Short answer: the top is taken, and a plain clone is a bad bet. A twist can still break out. Here are the numbers behind that verdict, measured 7 Oct 2026.
What the steal an X formula is
One loop carries the whole genre. You build a base, generate or collect something valuable, then steal it from your neighbours while defending your own stock. Rounds are short, progress is visible, and every session ends with a claim on the next one. Steal An Egg is the biggest Roblox example right now, and dozens of reskins followed it.

Steal An Egg has fallen from about 14.3M players at its peak in late September to 1.2M today. That is an 8x drop in roughly two weeks, which is what the end of a hype curve looks like. The audience is still huge, but the wave that made every new entry easy to find has passed. Our verdict for the trend is Crowded.
When a new entry still works
Crowded does not mean closed. Break and Steal an Egg reported about 116k players a month after launch, well after the original took off. It did not out-build the leader. It changed one rule of the loop and gave returning players a reason to switch.
That is the pattern worth copying. A twist on the formula beats a reskin: a different way to steal, a different way to lose your stock, or a round structure that changes who is hunted. If you can state your twist in one sentence and it changes what a player does in the first two minutes, it is probably a twist. If it is a new map and new hats, it is a reskin.
Be honest about scope too. A real steal-and-defend game needs plots, a steal loop, defence, saving and balancing. For a solo developer that is weeks of work, not days. By the time a from-scratch version ships, the trend has moved again.
What we would build this week instead
Our free Trend Radar reads public Roblox stats daily and gives each rising trend a verdict. This week it shows two trends still marked Build now: anime dice and RNG luck games, and runner vs chaser horror rounds. Both genres are younger on Roblox, so early entries still stand out.
